The Chemistry Club is a department affiliated organization that serves its students by exposing them to opportunities for networking in the chemical sciences. Our students have gained valuable contacts through professional speakers, alumni, and field trips to sophisticated scientific facilities such as Brookhaven National Laboratory. The primary goal of the Chemistry club is to advance students’ career knowledge, and give them a hook into the industry through networking.

COMPUTER GRAPHICS CLUB

The purpose of the Computer Graphics Club is to offer graphic design services while giving Nassau Community College students the opportunity to better their skills and gain real life experience in the computer graphics field. CONCRETE CANOE CLUB

The Concrete Canoe Racing team is comprised of a group of students and faculty who design, build, and race canoes of concrete and steel. The concept began at the University of Illinois in the 1970’s. While the project began to demonstrate Archimedes’ Principles to civil engineering students, it has expanded at Nassau Community College to include students from across the disciplines. During the fall, winter, and spring semesters, the club constructs the canoe; it then travels to a participating colleges to compete in the races. Some of the colleges include West Point, Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn State, and Johns Hopkins. The races consist of men’s, women’s, co-ed, and faculty teams, and are usually attended by six to ten other college teams.

In addition, club members participate in summer canoe/ camping excursions to promote caong students and faculty. No experience is needed in camping, canoeing, or canoe building. There are many areas within the club to help, whether they are mechanical, technical, or administrative. Regardless of your interests or skill, we can help you develop it further. CONNECTIONS CLUB

The Connections Club offers a welcoming social and supportive environment to promote overall wellness for students. The ultimate goal of our club is to offer activities during our meetings that will assist students in making social connections to the campus. Weekly meetings are run by a counselor from the Center for Students with Disabilities office and two specialized counselors from Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, Inc. Lunch is provided. Student members will have opportunities to be involved in the Student Activities Fair, the Multicultural Fair, and the First Year Experience Program’s Day of Service. Club meetings are on Tuesdays at a.m.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA

The Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) is an organization whose purpose is to inform students about opportunities for careers in the construction industry and to serve as a link to the national Construction Management Association of America organization. Student chapter membership will help students be eligible for scholarships and internships and give members opportunities to hear guest lectures, visit local construction sites, and shadow professionals. Meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of every month during club hour ( a.m.- p.m.). Students interested in this organization can contact the faculty advisor, Prof. Nina Shah-Giannaris, for more details.

CREATIVE WRITING CLUB

The Creative Writing Club holds workshops for students interested in writing fiction and poetry. We are also responsible for the publication of the literary magazine Luna, which is a collection of student and faculty creative works: poetry, short stories, brief plays, photographs, and art. It is our hope that in joining us you will contribute to the production of the magazine. Those who join will also benefit from the experience of submitting work, editing and publishing, and having their voices heard. Meetings are Tuesdays during club hour ( a.m.).
